Supportive Employers Campaign (SEC)
WHAG offers supportive services and accommodation for women and young parents with babies who are homeless or who are at risk of homelessness, and people of all genders, children, and some pets, who are fleeing domestic abuse.
The Supportive Employers Campaign (SEC) was launched by WHAG in April 2024 to encourage organisations to proactively prevent the negative effects of domestic abuse impacting their business and employees. This can be done by acquiring one of our corporate services.
Why should businesses get involved?
Every year approximately 2.1 million people experience domestic abuse (Office for National Statistics, 2023). Despite being seen as an “at-home” problem, domestic abuse businesses approximately £14 billion a year due to absenteeism, loss of productivity and other factors (NHS Employers, 2023). Statistically at least 10% of employees are likely to be victims or survivors of domestic abuse every year (Equality and human rights commission, 2023).
At WHAG, we believe prevention is better than cure. That is why we are urging businesses to get involved in our Supportive Employers Campaign.
What corporate services are available?
- Domestic abuse work policy, similar to the maternity leave policy, to ensure the safety of your business and team.
- Domestic abuse awareness training programme so that employees understand what domestic abuse is, how to identify potential abusive relationships, and the risks and barriers present to those who experience it.
- Training programmes for HR managers, leaders, and domestic abuse champions to understand how to handle instances of disclosure from those experiencing or inflicting abuse.
- Healthy and positive relationship training for individuals to prevent unhealthy behaviours in relationships that may escalate to abuse.
- Full domestic abuse prevention and support plan for businesses.
What does it cost?
- Domestic abuse work policy – £50 per organisation regardless of size.
