WHAG offers supportive services and accommodation for women and young parents with babies who are homeless or who are at risk of homelessness, and people of all genders, children, and some pets, who are fleeing domestic abuse.

Treasurer, Board of Trustees

Lumka Dabula, a Chartered Accountant, brings over 7 years of experience in audit and financial reporting to her role as Treasurer. She began her career at an accounting firm, specializing in auditing and assurance services, where she conducted comprehensive audits for a diverse range of clients, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and enhancing internal controls. Lumka then transitioned to focus on financial reporting, where she is effective in preparing accurate and transparent financial statements, and analysing financial data.

Lumka’s expertise extends to nonprofit boards, where she contributes to financial governance and strategic planning. Her dedication to sound financial management and strategic planning contributes to the Board of Trustees.

Maggie Cornall

Maggie Cornall

Co-Chair

Maggie has worked in social housing for many years and across a number of different types of landlords. Maggie has dedicated over two decades of her career to the housing service in Blackpool and helped to set up the company, Blackpool Coastal Housing. Maggie is a fully qualified housing professional, obtaining ‘Fellow’ status from the Chartered Institute of Housing and subsequently obtained a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. Maggie also qualified to lecture on housing studies courses.

Maggie has a busy family life having three children and enjoys physical activity. She has managed to complete 5 marathons, a number of half marathons and numerous 10k races. As part of Maggie’s wider commitment to Blackpool she has been a trustee and chairman of the boards of two separate charities which both worked on children and young people. Currently Maggie is a non-executive director of Wirral Methodist Housing Association, providing expert housing challenge to the management team at the Association and also sits on their Governance and Internal Controls Committee.

Maggie passionately believes that housing has a significant influence on the health and wellbeing of residents within our communities. She uses this passion to not only create high quality landlord services but also to develop and innovate new services that contribute to these wider priorities within Blackpool.

Rachel Hughes

Co-Chair

Rachel is passionate about helping people and creating stronger, safer communities. She has spent more than 20 years working in branding, marketing and communications, leading teams and projects that bring people together and give them a voice.

As Co-Chair of WHAG’s Board of Trustees alongside Maggie, Rachel works closely with the charity’s leadership team to provide guidance and support, helping ensure WHAG can continue to deliver its vital services. 

Alongside her trustee role, Rachel is actively involved in her local community – from supporting a local school as a governor, to promoting her local community choir and supporting neighbourhood events. She has also taken part in fundraising challenges for charities close to her heart, from long-distance walks to sponsored litter picks.

Rachel believes in the power of kindness, collaboration and community, and is proud to play a part in helping WHAG make a real difference to people’s lives. 

When she isn’t working, she enjoys time with her family which includes a young daughter and two whippet-salukis. Rachel also likes singing, tap dancing and playing the guitar.

Livia Johnson

Livia is a successful relationship coach and NLP/EFT therapist who works with people who have experienced toxic relationships, bereavement and/or divorce to empower them to move forward in their lives. Livia shows them how to anchor into their strength to find their freedom, so that they can learn not only to love themselves, but to also form and keep healthy relationships in their future.

Livia’s background is in business development and marketing before this, and this helps her to apply the dual skills of a marketing and coaching viewpoint as a Trustee at WHAG.

Livia is a busy and loving mum of three and enjoys the great outdoors, as well as being a ‘foodie’ who enjoys cooking for her family.

Jenny Kovacs

Jenny Kovacs

As a development professional Jenny has worked in both the private and public sectors gaining a BSc (Hons) in Quantity surveying and MSC with distinction in Project Management and has been awarded and retains MCIOB accreditation

Formerly working in the private sector Jenny was a director of Richardson Projects Ltd responsible for the housing sale division until 2008 when the organisation merged with Rock which led to a new role as bid manager of multi-million-pound PFIs for refurbishment and new homes in Oldham, Leeds and Salford.

Following this Jenny moved to the public sector joining the development teams of a number of housing associations, culminating in Director of Development at Wythenshawe Community Housing Group. Here she was responsible for a number of multi-million-pound schemes for affordable housing, rent to buy and housing for sale.

A move to Saffer Cooper as a consultant helping various North West Registered Providers with their development programmes and the implementation of Bric by Bric, a training course for new development professionals, completes Jenny’s work history due to retirement in in 2022.

Jenny joined the WHAG Bot in 2023, being interested in their work for several years and running the Manchester marathon for them in 2016. Jenny now also competes in triathlons and has represented GB .

Gillian Baron

Trustee

Gillian Baran has thirty years experience of working with children and families. Gillian spent twenty five years working in a school setting mainly with Neuro Divergent children.

Gillian gained a degree in Childhood Study from Huddersfield University later in life. This triggered an interest in working with families to help them improve their quality of life. Gillian now works for a Childhood Care Assessments company. Her role includes working with families who have experienced domestic violence, homelessness, are working towards being reunited with their children if their child/children are currently in care. Or they may benefit from one to one parenting course to improve their parenting skills.

Gillian is very happy to be on the WHAG Board of Trustees as this gives her the opportunity to share her experience of helping individuals and families who are experiencing hardship, trauma or are in crisis.

Gillian has three grown up daughters and a granddaughter who she loves to spend time with.

Her hobbies are gardening, cooking and reading.

Lucy Merlo

Trustee

Lucy has worked as a teacher for over 25 years, she has taken a keen interest in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and gained her specialist qualifications in 2006. Lucy has worked in both the state and independent sector and currently works as a Specialist Assessor and Teacher in Manchester, alongside this she is the Head of Volunteering which allows her to pass on to students the benefits of service to others. In addition to her role in school, she also works as a tutor for Patoss delivering their on-line course allowing teachers to gain further qualifications in SEND.

Lucy feels it is important to volunteer in her community and has sat on the board of governors in two schools, worked with the Youth Offending Team,  and now volunteers as a driver for the Lighthouse in Whitworth and as a board member for WHAG.

Lucy is a proud Rochdalian and lives with her husband, three children and cat. In her free time, she enjoys walking and jogging.

Munpreet is a communications and marketing professional with extensive experience in the third sector, working with organisations and non-profits that aim to create systemic and social change. Passionate about inclusivity, social justice, community and women’s rights, Munpreet is solution-focused and dedicated to supporting the community that WHAG serves. Aligning deeply with WHAG’s missions and aims, Munpreet is an advocate for all, especially women and girls.

I am a communications and marketing professional with extensive experience in the third sector, working with organisations and non-profits that aim to create systemic and social change. Passionate about inclusivity, social justice, community and women’s rights, I am solution-focused and dedicated to supporting the community that WHAG serves. Aligning deeply with WHAG’s missions and aims, I am an advocate for all, especially women and girls.
